Job Position: Foreman – Western Division
Position Overview
Park Construction Company, a regional Highway/Heavy contractor established in Minneapolis, is searching for an experienced full time experienced Foreman four our Western Division. Park works throughout the Midwest. The right person will demonstrate a high safety standard, and ability to work in a team environment.
Essential Duties and Position Responsibilities:
- Directs activities of workers engaged in the operation of mass excavation equipment for the construction of highways, mining reclamation, site development and other company projects.
- Demonstrates a proactive rather than a reactive approach to the construction process.
- Demonstrates a willingness and ability to follow through with instructions.
- Exhibits diplomacy when dealing with others.
- Studies project specifications with project superintendent to plan sequencing and schedule for grading and excavation.
- Coordinates and supervises daily activities of 2 to 12 people.
- Assembles members of crew (scraper, dozer, blade operators) daily throughout project and adjusts work schedules as needed.
- Sets grade and slope stakes, communicates cut and fill depths to crew members.
- Observes assigned equipment to detect machinery malfunctions. Expeditiously reports machine malfunctions and defects to superintendent.
- Accurately records quantities in Heavy Job.
- Confers with superintendent to resolve complaints and grievances within work force, subcontractors and owners.
- Confers with supervisory and engineering personnel and inspectors to resolve construction problems and improve construction methods.
- Sequences excavation to reduce inference with other project activities and traveling public.
- Continually inspects work site surveying for potential hazards or safety concerns.
- Establish safe work environment that complies with OSHA standards and company safety program.
- Reviews and approves employee time cards.
- Readily accepts ideas and suggestions for improving project performance.
- Willingly shares best practices and methods with other foremen.
- Always conducts self in a professional manner.
- Can be depended on to be at project sites when required.
- Knows when to ask for help.
- Actively participates in self-improvement programs to enhance technical and leadership skills.
- Assist Pipe Superintendent on weekly progress schedule updates.
- Assist Pipe Superintendent to schedule subcontractors as needed or required.
Essential Duties and Position Responsibilities:
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Highway Heavy construction.
- Time Management – Managing one’s own time and the time of others.
- Active Listening – Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
- Management of Personnel Resources – Motivating, developing, and directing people as they work, identifying the best people for the job.
- Maintaining a professional appearance and providing a positive company image to the public. Negotiation – Bringing others together and trying to reconcile differences.
- Work requires significant local and out of town travel to current and potential job sites. This requires the possession of a valid state driver’s license upon employment.
- Stress Tolerance – Job requires accepting criticism and dealing calmly and effectively with high stress situations.
- Self-Control – Job requires maintaining composure, keeping emotions in check, controlling anger, and avoiding aggressive behavior, even in very difficult situations.
- Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills required. This is normally acquired through a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Computer skills. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word/Excel and HCSS.
Working Conditions:
- Ability to work in various weather conditions.
- Start and stop work at the designated times.
- Must be able to lift 70 lbs occasionally.
- Will assist laborers as needed.
- Requires use of hand tools in repetitive manner 30% of time.
